KA + Manntech BMU ensure quality maintenance systems into the next decade and beyond.

When Queensland icon Suncorp move into their new premises at 167 Turbot Street, they will be well serviced by the BMU on their roof. Now in transit from Germany, KA's Steven White and the Manntech design team are thrilled ‘the little monster’ is on its way. The Turbot Street BMU is the largest ever built for Australia by Manntech. The unit has an outreach of 24m and the boom is telescopic (2 stage, 12m stroke). The track is a 3m gauge and the wheel gauge has a span of 3m. The cradle incorporates a guide rope system and a cradle on a cantilevered frame allowing access to some recessed areas of the building.

The 26 floor, A-grade office building incorporates progressive planning and design focused on economy and sustainability - achieving a 4.5 star Australian Building Greenhouse rating (ABGR) and a 4 Green star rating. KA worked with Structural Engineers Costin Roe and Developers Amalgamated Property Group.

Partnering with Lend Lease, KA will provide 3 BMU for the 833 Collins Street development at Docklands. BMU NSW manager, Tim Goodwin and Manntechs Alex Griel spent considerable design time tailoring a sophisticated solution for a highly complex install.

The building incorporates measures such as rainwater harvesting, thermal insulation, solar boosted hot water systems and the development will register for Green Star ratings aiming for the highest currently available environmental accreditations for the base building and fitout.

Due for completion in late 2009, this large development will become base for ANZ and over 6,500 staff members.

Broad construction has been awarded development of the Alluvion project in Perth’s CBD. A $111 million commercial tower in Mounts Bay Road, Alluvion comprises 22 levels and exploits the magnificent views of the Swan River and Kings Park. Due for Completion in early 2010, the design incorporates 14 levels of commercial office space, a triple height foyer, roof terrace and landscaped gardens. Another environmentally responsible project, Alluvion will also meet 4 Star Green Star and 4.5 Star ABGR making it one of the first commercial office towers in the Perth CBD to achieve this level of environmental efficiency.

“While Alluvion is very special, being our first in WA, the project offers significant challenges for façade maintenance given proximity to the river, weather and the environment in WA. Manntech BMUs are the highest quality and are completely customised for such jobs, it would be difficult for any other BMU to effectively manage these conditions long term”, said KA MD, Andrew Ferguson.

andrew, iphone, perth skyline Meet us in person at the WA Safety Show. Coinciding with the launch of our new branch in WA - KA will be on hand at the Safety Show to discuss our height access services and equipment. This is the first ever Safety Show in WA and the event will run for 3 days with organisers expecting more than 3,000 visitors and around 150 exhibitors.

KA services fit well with the manufacturing, mining, building/construction, and government sectors – all areas that are growing fast in WA. The access, height safety, maintenance and testing services we offer are designed to be low impact and efficient - obliterating the need for lengthy shut downs or hefty investment into temporary access equipment – resulting in long run cost reductions for operators.

Experienced exhibitors in NSW - KA looks forward to impressing visitors with our industry knowledge, key partners and track record of excellent service. KA MD, Andrew Ferguson will be permanently based in WA from July, and can be contacted on 0411 502 300

The entire Height Safety industry has been put on high alert following the tragic swing stage accident at the Gold Coast recently. WorkCover reacted swiftly issuing alerts and once again calling all height workers to review their processes.

In reaction to these incidents - KA has moved to further strengthen already effective safety procedures. Scaffolds + Platforms manager Stuart White has taken the initiative of adding an additional checklist to our set up and handover process, reinforcing the need for diligence amongst the scaffold crews. “Such accidents are always a shock. It makes the whole industry review its methods, revisiting our operating practices and making sure we are doing everything to keep our workers and clients safe.”
