Atlassian Central is a pioneering commercial tower in Sydney and the world's tallest hybrid timber building. Its complex façade, exposed structure and integrated green spaces set new benchmarks for tall timber, and they also make parts of the build hard to reach by conventional means.
The challenge
On a structure this novel, some work simply cannot wait for scaffold or a crane without holding up the whole program. The main steel and rigging contractors needed a partner who could reach the structure directly, work safely around live crane and rigging operations, and complete detailed work at height where other access methods would cause delays and heavy extra cost.
What we delivered
Karabiner were engaged by the main steel and rigging contractors to help with remediation and adjustment of the steel structure, and inspection and documentation of fixings. Further rope access scopes followed: structural steel installation, cleaning and painting structural steel, applying intumescent coatings where required, final fix of structural timber elements, and internal riser inspection and make-safe works. Our crews worked alongside the rigging, crane, coatings and main contractor teams to solve access as it came up.
The result
Work that would otherwise have needed expensive temporary access was completed safely, to a high standard, without slowing the build. When access is the thing holding up your program, talk to our team.
